ARCHITECTURE PROJECT PROFILE
Medical Facility, Saratoga County, New York
Designed by C.T. Male Associates, this new 5000-square-foot medical facility is located at the site of a former restaurant in downtown Saratoga Springs. C.T. Male’s architects and engineers worked with the medical staff to first establish space requirements for the proposed facility, and continued on through the development of the design, bid procurement, permitting and administration of the construction work.
The project consists of a new two-story wood-framed structure with masonry veneers and a hip-style shingle roof. The facility’s first floor includes the administrative space, lab facilities, exam rooms and offices for nursing, counseling staff and clinicians required by the medical practice. A major concern in the development of the program was the privacy and security of both the patients and staff. This was addressed by C.T. Male’s design team in every aspect of the design, from locating the building on the site, to placement of entrances, control of movement throughout the building and specialized systems to maximize the occupants’ protection. The second floor consists of an educational library, which was designed as a multi-purpose space to double as a meeting room, that includes an accessible rooftop area for mechanical equipment.
As part of the approval process, C.T. Male made submissions to both the Saratoga Springs Architectural Review Board and the New York State Department of Health. C.T. Male also prepared a Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessment and an Environmental Assessment for the SEQR approval. A geotechnical engineering study and survey of the property, as well as an asbestos-containing material survey prior to demolition of the existing building, was also provided. C.T. Male’s single-source design approach resulted in a cohesive design incorporating all aspects of the client’s and municipality’s requirements.
