MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROJECT PROFILE
East Greenbush YMCA, East Greenbush, New York
Over the past few years, C.T. Male has had the opportunity to be involved in the design of some of the Capital District’s most unique recreational projects. The Capital District YMCA, with over 50,000 members in the region, came to C.T. Male to provide the architectural and engineering services for their new 58,000-square-foot facility located in the town of East Greenbush, New York.
This new facility is closely modeled after the YMCA in Guilderland, New York, which C.T. Male completed in 2000. The successful two-story design locates the majority of the recreational spaces on the main floor level, with the aerobics and fitness center, along with the elevated running track around the gymnasium, located on the second floor. This design supported the YMCA’s age-appropriate fitness instruction for youths, teens and older adults. Spaces provided included a competition-sized indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, steam room, full-size gymnasium, aerobics and fitness centers, indoor running track, teen center, babysitting facilities and separate locker rooms for adults and youths. In addition, complete office facilities for the YMCA’s staff, including over 1,800 employees in the Capital Region, were provided.
In addition to the design of all the building systems, C.T. Male’s engineering staff provided the designs for the site lighting and landscaping for the YMCA facility, as well as the roadway lighting project in conjunction with the new Town Library adjacent to the YMCA site.
