MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROJECT PROFILE

Neighborhood Park Improvements, Hudson, New York

The City of Hudson, N.Y., has implemented a program to develop the waterfront area in the vicinity of the Hudson Boat Club and the former Best Oil Depot (now removed). To address a critical need for neighborhood recreation facilities, the City proposed utilizing the recently renovated waterfront parcel for the creation of a public park that will ultimately include children’s playground equipment, furniture, fixtures, a pedestrian pathway and public restroom facility.

The C.T. Male Associates, P.C. design for a public restroom is part of an initial phase in the Waterfront Park development. Construction includes: restroom facilities that are architecturally appropriate, a small sanitary sewage pumping station for these facilities, an extension of the sewer across the Amtrak tracks from the existing City pumping station and an extension of the potable water from the main on Front Street to the new restroom facilities. The restroom facilities require a grinder pumping station to transfer sewage to the City’s sewer system, which was also designed by C.T. Male as part of the utility improvements.

The handicap accessible restroom facility is constructed with a brick façade in keeping with the motif of the adjacent Historic Dunn Storage Building and Hudson Railroad Station. The new facility design includes decorative historic detailing such as ornamental metal columns and brackets, architectural roofing shingles and a fully operable weathervane.
