ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING PROJECT PROFILE

United States Postal Service, Albany, New York

The Albany United States Postal Service General Mail and Vehicle Maintenance Facility’s major electrical equipment has reached its useful life. Some of the electrical equipment has failed in the past, and it is increasingly difficult to find replacement materials. Under a term contract, C.T. Male is commissioned to replace the site’s major electrical equipment within an operating facility. To maintain operations and minimize outages, a new addition was constructed to house medium voltage switchgear that distributes service around the site. From outside pad mounted transformers, the electrical service enters the buildings to main distribution switchboards. The design permits much of the new system to be installed, energized and tested prior to affecting operations.

Project includes:

  • A 2600-square-foot addition
  • 15 kV metal clad switchgear, primary feeders, pad-mounted transformers and four 2000 ampere switchboards
  • Replacement of all of the site’s Federal Pacific Electric’s load-centers, panelboards, transformers and motor control centers
  • Interior renovations
  • HVAC fit-up
  • Fire alarm and sprinkler system modifications
  • Standby power systems and associated branch circuit wiring conversions
  • Site demolition and restoration
