CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT PROFILE
Albany International Airport: Runway 28 Obstruction Relocation
C.T. Male performed a feasibility study for the removal of two potable water storage tanks that obstruct the approach to Albany International Airport Runway 28. The study included creating a hydraulic model of the Town of Colonie DPW (Division of Latham Water) transmission system, calibrating the model, selecting locations for replacement storage, testing the suitability of the locations and testing system improvements to make sure the new location’s performance would at least equal the storage to be removed.
Also included were environmental assessments of the routes for proposed pipeline improvements and for the preferred storage tank location. A visibility assessment was performed of the preferred storage tank location as well as the locations for storage removal.
Alternatives for elevated storage were compared to ground storage with pumping stations, costs were estimated and 50-year present worth analysis was presented. These conclusions were presented at several public meetings.
