CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT PROFILE
Water Filtration Plant, Village of Groton, NY
C.T. Male began this project with the study of water filtration alternatives for a groundwater source, determined to be under the direct influence of surface water. A study was prepared comparing three filtration processes including a new membrane technology that is cost effective for small water systems. Cost estimates for capital expenditure as well as operation and maintenance costs were developed.
Membrane filtration was chosen and a final design was developed. Construction began in the fall of 2005 and plant startup was accomplished in April 2006. This water filtration plant in Groton is the first municipal membrane plant in New York State.
Work also included a successful application to NYS Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Program for project funding.
