ARCHITECTURE PROJECT PROFILE

Saratoga County Animal Shelter, Ballston Spa, New York

CT Male was retained by the County of Saratoga to provide value engineering services for the proposed concept design of the new Animal Shelter, which is to be built adjacent to the existing facility set to be demolished.  Based upon the conceptual design documents, CT Male provided recommendations with the intent of maximizing the performance and minimizing the cost of particular options.  The total project budget was reduced by approximately 14 percent. Based upon value engineering recommendations, CT Male is providing final design services for the new 24,000 SF pre-engineered timber column building.

CT Male also provided Land Survey, Geotechnical Evaluation, and Asbestos Containing Materials Evaluation services to assist in the demolition of the existing facility and design of the new structure.  The design elements of the new structure will incorporate gable and gambrel roof styles, reminiscent of the surrounding farm properties and barn-type structures, while incorporating modern, low maintenance and energy efficient building materials and systems, incorporated under NYSERDA’s New Construction program. The new facility accommodates feline and canine adoption viewing and administration, isolation, quarantine, and bathing areas; examination, surgery, and euthanasia capabilities; warewash and laundry services; administration and meeting spaces; as well as employee and volunteer amenities.

Feature pet displays are arranged for viewing from both the entry vestibule and lobby to welcome visitors.  Acoustical steel ceiling liners, wall insulation, and separated corridors minimize sound transmission from the canine areas.  FRP wall coverings and slip-resistant epoxy floor coatings in the animal areas provide durable and sanitary surfaces.  Mortarless brick wainscots and Kynar-coated metal panels will provide long-lasting exterior wall and roof coverings, with fiberglass composite windows with insulating glass that are economical and energy efficient.
