Rensselaer, NY

The BASF Corporation, with headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey, came to C.T. Male Associates to develop, design, and direct the construction administration for the Rensselaer Multiuse Building, which also includes Platinum LEED Certification. Located in Rensselaer, New York, just a few miles from Albany, NY, the project site is owned by BASF, and was previously utilized as an industrial manufacturing site. As the industrial occupancy of the site has been discontinued, the project site has been remediated and transformed into a safer environment for the Owner and community. To maintain a presence on the site and demonstrate products manufactured by BASF, the Rensselaer Multiuse Building is conceived and designed to provide educational opportunities for the application of sustainable design.

The project site also includes a natural park environment, which includes irrigation free landscaping, walking paths, and bench areas intended to create an example for the effective utilization of site design and site related resources. The 3,000 SF building, which is currently under construction and is attempting LEED Platinum Certification, will be positioned within the site to provide facilities to visitors and educate local school groups on environmental concepts and building products.

C.T. Male’s Architects and Engineers worked directly with the Owner and project consultants to further develop and address specific program requirements for this project, as well as integrate building products that not only assist in the LEED Certification process, but are also manufactured by the BASF Corporation. Products made fully or partially by BASF include rigid insulation, spray foam insulation, EIFS, sealants, membranes, paint, windows, doors, radiant floor slab panels and skylights.

In addition to using BASF manufactured products, steel materials have been salvaged from the adjacent site to provide structural steel components for the new building. Additional salvaged steel, consisting of metal grating, will be utilized to provide a window shading device.

Like many of our corporate clientele, a well-coordinated set of documents and effective design solutions, including value analysis, expedited the delivery of the work and provided BASF with a quality facility within the project budget.
