Feeney Brothers Excavation, LLC. – Survey Services

Ballston & Malta, New York

C.T. Male Associates was retained by Feeney Brothers Excavation, LLC to conduct a record survey of a 4- mile long natural gas pipeline in Ballston and Malta, New York.

The primary purpose of this survey was to document the horizontal and vertical location of a 12-inch diameter gas line being built from East Line Road to Stonebreak Road to serve GlobalFoundries computer chip plant. Locations of pipe welds, weld numbers, heat numbers, valves and markers were recorded.

In addition to locating the gas line, C.T. Male Associates staked the centerline of the proposed pipe in case original stakes, set by National Grid, were destroyed due to construction. Edge of wetlands, edge of work limits and property corners were also replaced. After the gas line was built and backfilled, the centerline of the pipe was staked using the record survey data for calibration of National Grid’s “smart pig” (inspection devices that record information about the internal conditions of a pipeline) testing.

Coordinate point files of the field location of the gas line pipe, valves, markers, weld numbers, and heat numbers were provided to Feeney Brothers and National Grid throughout the construction phase.

Aerial photogrammetry manuscripts received from National Grid were used as background information along the gas line. Final record mapping showed alignment stationing, deflection angles, overbends, underbends, weld numbers and heat numbers.
