Hertz Fleet Service Center Redevelopment

Colonie, New York

The Hertz Corporation owns and operates an existing fleet service facility that exclusively serves the Albany International Airport.  The facility occupies a combined area of 4.7± acres located at 851 and 859 Old Albany Shaker Road in the Town of Colonie, located within several miles of Latham, NY in Albany County.

This project involved the phased construction of new buildings including a 6,300 square foot administrative/vehicle maintenance building, a new 2,600 square foot car wash building, a new 3,300 square foot fueling canopy over fuel/vacuum islands and a new staging area for over 300 vehicles.  The site was developed with measures to secure vehicle inventory from theft such as security fencing, mechanical gates and interior guide rail.

In 2005, The Hertz Corporation (Owner) began working with Burns & McDonnell Engineering (Architect) and C.T. Male Associates (Site Engineer & Surveyor) to develop conceptual site plan alternatives to redevelop their existing fleet service facility. All three organizations involved in this project collaborated in an effort to meet Hertz’s goal of improving the overall efficiency of their corporate operations, while continuing to function in the same capacity. In 2006, the project was tabled due to economic reasons, however site design was restarted in 2008.

In 2010, the Town of Colonie Planning Board granted final approval of site plans, and stormwater management and geotechnical engineering reports that were prepared by C.T. Male Associates.  In June 2011, construction drawings and specifications that were jointly prepared by C.T. Male Associates and the Architect went out to bid.  The project also involved the phased demolition of all existing above-ground structures on both parcels.

This multi-disciplined project employed many of the services that C.T. Male Associates has to offer including:
