Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

There were several reasons why the Village of Groton Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was in need of an upgrade. Some consisted of new phosphorous limits, increased flow, insufficient sludge process equipment, and aging equipment throughout the plant. C.T. Male Associates provided engineering services that included a full evaluation of the plant, preparation of a design report, funding assistance and complete design and construction documents for the upgrades and installation of the following items:

  • Influent grinder
  • Variable speed influent pumps
  • Sequencing Batch Reactors
  • Anaerobic digester
  • Sludge pumping
  • Sludge dewatering
  • New Filter/Blower Building
  • New Dewatering Building
  • New Reinforced Concrete SBR Tanks
  • Conversion of existing Reinforced Concrete Aeration Tanks into Digester and Equalization Tanks.

The upgraded wastewater treatment plant has been in operation since 2011 and is serving the Village well.  The WWTP has reliably met the conditions of the Village’s State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit consistently while reducing the maintenance required by WWTP staff.
